Roadmaps for the Future: US Climate Experts on What Needs to Be Done

Bill McKibben: Pioneering Climate Activist and Founder of 350.org

Bill McKibben is an individual who has consistently led efforts to draw attention to climate change in the United States. He has led the efforts of the international organization 350.org since 2008 and has been a public speaker and activist in various capacities on numerous occasions. Bill has been forthright about his concerns regarding global warming with American leaders and has consistently advocated for the environment with elected officials and notable public figures, regardless of their background.

Bill has led numerous peaceful campaigns to draw attention to climate change in the United States, including a 5-day walk across Vermont to raise awareness among members of the US Congress, and the campaign against the Keystone XL Pipeline, which was proposed to cross the United States into Canada. Although Bill has been a widely renowned speaker and public figure, his efforts to advocate for the environment continue to spark controversy due to climate denial amongst political figures. Despite this, he has remained steadfast in his commitment to making a positive impact on the American public regarding the issue of combating global warming.

The organization that Bill has led since 2008, 350.org, has worked on numerous campaigns within the environmental sector throughout the United States as well as international contexts. 350.org has led events such as the 2014 People’s Climate March, a global event that took place to mobilize people around the world in campaigning against climate change. In addition, another 360.org event was the 2019 Global Climate Strike, for which the organization was a leading organizer.

Throughout his career, Bill has been a prominent advocate and spokesperson for efforts to address climate change, and he has continued to participate in actions across the United States to encourage more effective policies.

A quote from Bill includes: “We’ve been given a warning by science, and a wake-up call by nature; it is up to us now to heed them.

Bill McKibben is one of the founders of 350.org; he is the CEO of the organization currently and can be reached at bill.mckibben@gmail.com.
