Marcio Astrini, the Executive Secretary of the Climate Observatory (https://www.oc.eco.br/ ), is our honoree as the country’s climate leader.
He has a degree in public management and a postgraduate degree in public policy and constitutional law. He has extensive experience in the executive, legislative, and third-sector branches. For the past 13 years, he has worked at Greenpeace Brazil, where he coordinated the areas of climate, the Amazon, and, more recently, public policy. He has been the executive secretary of the OC since March 2020.
The Climate Observatory is a coalition of Brazilian civil society organizations that discuss climate change. It uses essential mechanisms such as the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Estimation System (SEEG), a unique tool developed to calculate Brazilian emissions annually and identify their origin. In addition, the Observatory produces several publications that provide public authorities with comments on Brazil’s climate goals.
