Current situation:
Renewable energies have played a significant role in Brazil’s energy matrix. According to recent data, the share of renewable sources in the Brazilian electricity generation matrix is approximately 85%. The primary renewable sources include hydroelectric power, which has historically been dominant, as well as wind and solar power.
Trends in the Last 10 Years:
- In recent years, there has been significant growth in the installed capacity of renewable energy in Brazil. This is due to incentive policies, energy auctions, and technological advances.
- Wind energy and solar energy have shown consistent growth. Brazil has become one of the leaders in wind generation in Latin America.
- Solar energy, in particular, had a significant increase, driven by the reduction in the cost of photovoltaic panels and the increase in the efficiency of installations.
Perspectives for the Next 10 Years:
- Renewable energies are expected to continue growing. Brazil has enormous potential for expanding solar energy, especially in sunny regions like the Northeast.
- Wind energy should also become an important source, with new parks and investments.
- Biomass (mainly sugarcane bagasse) will also contribute to the energy matrix.
Recommendations for Greater Participation of Renewables:
- Fiscal and Regulatory Incentives: Policies that encourage investments in renewable energy, such as tax exemptions and specific auctions.
- Research and Development: Invest in research to improve technologies and reduce costs.
- Education and Awareness: Promote awareness about the importance of renewables and encourage their use in homes and businesses.
In summary, Brazil has advanced in adopting renewable energy, but there are still challenges to overcome. We can achieve a cleaner and more sustainable energy matrix with appropriate policies and continuous investments.
