India 2024 Climate Scorecard Award: Bhupender Yadav

Climate Scorecard’s 2024 Government Climate Leadership Award is presented to a country official who has done the most to reduce emissions in their country’s government over the past year. Below is a copy of the letter sent to each nominee and why they were chosen to receive this award.

India 2024 Climate Scorecard Award:

Minister Shri. Bhupender Yadav, Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change

Honourable Union Minister,

We are privileged to inform you that you have been conferred an international Climate Award from Climate Scorecard, a 9-year-old non-profit organization whose mission is to report on and advocate for efforts to reduce emissions in leading greenhouse gas-emitting countries. The award recognizes your transformative contribution to effectively combat the climate crisis by systematically reducing carbon emissions and preserving the environment.

India’s commitment to climate action stands out among the community of nations under your watchful eyes, ensuring targeted actions and their follow-through. In addition, your leadership, under the Honourable Indian Prime Minister’s guidance, will bring about reductions in carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030 through renewables and net neutrality by 2070. We also recognize your work in helping establish Mission LiFE (Life Style for Environment) and the International Solar Alliance Initiative.

Given India’s commitment to and your leadership in pursuit of global climate goals, Climate Scorecard would further like to request your consideration in escalating the pace of carbon emissions from hard-to-abate sectors, transitioning away from fossil fuel sooner, a faster transition to clean energy mechanisms through public-private collaboration, and pushing forward regional partnerships to keep alive the Paris Climate Goal of limiting the earth’s warming to 1.5 degree Celsius. These clear pathways would act as adequate guard rails and be further milestones in India’s contribution to meeting global climate goals. Your leadership is sincerely called upon for much-needed action and collective action.

Again, we would like to thank you for your leadership in pushing the climate agenda forward to protect the climate and environment from rapid adverse changes for our shared prosperity in line with Sustainable Development Goals.

We congratulate you once again for being conferred with the Government Climate Award.

Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration.

Sincerely,

Ron Israel
