Climate Action Network Canada – Réseau action climat Canada (CAN-Rac Canada) (Ottawa)
CAN-Rac Canada is a coalition of more than 100 organizations to advance climate solutions by managing carbon pollution through sustainable and equitable development. It is supported by its secretariat as a forum for collaborative action, communication, policy development, and coordination to its many independent member organizations. This network is the only agency of its kind to offer a Canadian mandate to promote the climate movement as a whole, rather than the interests and programs of any one group.
Aligned to the Paris Agreement protocols in force as of Nov 4, 2016, CAN-Rac supports global warming below 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, and Canada accelerating and exceeding its commitment to meet its GGE reduction target of 30% below 2005 levels by 2030 to reach 1.5C. This includes a phase out of global fossil fuels and 100% renewables by 2050. CANRac’s calculations suggest Canada’s fair-share contribution to the global effort on climate change is a reduction in GGE of 50% below 2005 levels by 2030 while increasing contributions to international climate financing to $4 billion/year.
