A significant technological innovation in Brazil is the Digital Atlas of Disasters. Developed by the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) in partnership with the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), this tool enables structured visualization of disaster data, presenting detailed graphs, tables, and maps. It provides an organized view of incidents that occurred in Brazil from 1991 to 2023.
Atlas Features:
- Interactive Map: Generates detailed spatial visualizations of disaster data.
- Dashboard: Organizes data on occurrences and losses in graphs and tables.
- Official Data: Based on official data from the National Secretariat for Civil Defense and Protection (Sedec/MIDR).
- Analysis Tool: Allows for searches by states, types of disasters, and impact categories.
Impact: This innovative tool helps identify at-risk areas and plan mitigation and response actions for climate disasters. It also provides valuable information for the development of public policies and enables the population to better understand the impacts of disasters in their region. This contributes to reducing damage and losses, as well as saving lives.
The tool can be accessed free of charge through the following link: https://atlasdigital.mdr.gov.br/
