History of La Fresque du Climat
La Fresque du Climat, or Climate Fresk, founded in 2018 by Cédric Ringenbach, is a French NGO dedicated to raising awareness about climate change through an interactive and collaborative educational workshop called “The Climate Fresk.” The organization was created to help individuals and organizations understand the actors and stakes behind climate change and the urgency of taking action.
La Fresque du Climat conducts workshops using a game that helps players understand the causes and consequences of climate change. The game is based on reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and uses cards representing different aspects of climate change. Players receive 42 cards with causes and consequences, such as Famine, Heat Wave, Decline in Agricultural Yields, Construction, Industry, etc., and need to build a Fresk by putting the cards together in the correct order.
La Fresque du Climat has facilitated thousands of workshops in various countries, reaching over 300,000 participants since its creation. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many participants reporting a deeper understanding of climate issues and a more substantial commitment to action.
La Fresque du Climat has established a robust network within France and internationally. It collaborates with educational institutions, corporations, local governments, and other NGOs, which helps expand the workshops’ reach and integrate climate education into various sectors.
La Fresque du Climat operates with a small team of full-time staff and an extensive network of volunteers. The volunteers are crucial to the organization’s operations, as they facilitate many workshops.
