Leading Country Climate NGOs: Earthlife Africa

Earthlife Africa, established in 1988 in Johannesburg, South Africa, is a non-profit organization that champions the cause of a better life for all without compromising the environment or exploiting other people. It seeks to encourage and support individuals, businesses, and industries to reduce pollution, minimize waste, and protect our natural resources.

Earthlife Africa helps create environmental awareness amongst citizens on the detrimental impacts of nuclear energy and coal while promoting the uptake of cleaner and low-cost renewable energy technologies. The organization’s  Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Project deals with the issues of Renewable Energy and Climate Change. The Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Project seeks a just transition to renewable energy and a low-carbon economy. The SECCP works to promote local and global environmental and social justice on sustainable energy and climate change issues by changing policies and behavior through building the awareness and capacity of civil society and government to achieve an equitable future with respect for all.

The organization has no registered commitments but uses the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform, allowing stakeholders to inform the public about their work. The SFVC online platform is a useful tool for knowing who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on disaster risk reduction can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables. It has partners in South Africa, Southern Africa, and BRICS countries, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.
